Please join us for a special fundraising event!
Blossom Ferry Farm is proud to participate in the Canter for the Cure benefit show to be held at Sunny Reins Stables on June 19th. Funds raised will be donated to the Courtney Causey Medical Expense Fund and the Avon Foundation Breast Center via the PVDA Ride for Life. Since 2008, riders from North Carolina have participated in the PVDA Ride for Life, a benefit dressage show held in Upper Marlboro, MD. In 2008 and 2009, a group of riders forming the NC Caravan for the Cure made the trip to Maryland to ride in the show and raise funds, including three breast cancer survivors who made their way down centerline. To date, this group has raised over $27,000 for the cause.
This year, Paige Walker made the group aware of a very brave young lady from the Wilmington area. Courtney is currently battling an inoperable brain stem tumor, yet continues to ride during treatment with the assistance of Brendan Curtis and Charitie, a horse loaned to Courtney by Teresa Starks. She has been working hard to be able to participate in the Canter for the Cure show. Inspired by her story, it was quickly agreed that funds raised should also help Courtney’s family with medical expenses that are involved with her treatment.
Canter for the Cure will offer both dressage and combined training and is NCDCTA and EDCTSA recognized. The dressage judge for the show is well known and respected Cindy Sydnor. A lead line class will be held during the lunch break, sponsored by Blossom Ferry Farm. In addition to the riding, funds will be raised with a raffle, sparkling pink ribbon stencils that can be applied to your horse day of competition, and cotton candy and snow cones available for purchase. Raffle items to date include a toy package for the young horse enthusiast, a spa package for the busy show (or non-horsey) Mom, a fabulous boat ride, and an Absorbine products basket. Each entrant will receive one raffle ticket, and additional tickets will be available for sale for all who attend.
With design input from Courtney, t-shirts have been made and will be available for purchase at the show. Because of generous sponsors who providing funding for the shirts, ALL proceeds will be split between the two causes. If you are unable to attend the show and would like a t-shirt. an order form is available at the farm.
We hope to see you at the event! And to quote Courtney, “Live to Ride Horses!!!”
